Announces New George M. Steinbrenner
Band
Hall
We
are happy to announce that the Gator Band Program recently received
a major leadership gift from George
M. Steinbrenner to help build a new band complex
adjacent to our existing School of Music. This
exciting news also brings with it a challenge.
When
the leadership gift provided by George Steinbrenner is combined
with funds that we must raise along with matching funds from
the state, we will be able to proceed with Phase I. Our
immediate goal is to raise $150,000 for Phase I from
band alumni, parents of current students, and other supporters
of our band program. We must accomplish
this goal by December 31, 2002, to be eligible for
the state's Alec. P. Courtelis Facilities Enhancement Challenge
Grant. Phase I will include construction of a 4500 square foot
band rehearsal room, new band library and a large instrument
and uniform storage room.
If
we succeed in raising additional funding of approximately $350,000,
we want to undertake planning for Phase II, which will include
a percussion suite (teaching, rehearsal space), new band offices
and teaching studios for wind and brass faculty. Proceeding
with both Phase I and Phase II of the new band complex at the
same time would cut overall construction costs significantly.
We
look to and genuinely appreciate the generous support of our
Band Alumni, Band Parents and Gator Fans EVERYWHERE to help
us "Raise the Roof" for our new band complex.
